Repurpose Family Heirlooms

When Aunt Sue gives you a dusty old chest of drawers or secretary that has been in the family for nearly three generations, what do you do?

Do you accept it, grudgingly, and place it in the unused guest room or garage? Or do you access the piece and think of how you can honor the tradition while making it your own?

Can you use an old cabinet as a groovy bathroom vanity?  Or add a fresh coat of glossy paint and make it fresh again?  Heirlooms don’t have to be old and dark.  Keeping the piece invites two stories; the story of your family and how you acquired it, and your story of how you put your magic touch to the piece.
